ISLAMABAD: The Government of Pakistan has announced two major updates for the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) in October 2025. A new, easier payment system is being rolled out to send funds directly to bank accounts, and registration for the BISP Kafalat program is open for new, deserving families.
This article provides a complete guide on the new Rs. 13,500 payment system, how to register for the BISP NSER survey, and how to check your eligibility status online.
BISP has introduced a new bank payment system and opened new registrations in October 2025.
Big Update: BISP Launches New, Easier Payment System
The biggest change for BISP beneficiaries in October 2025 is the move to a new, more transparent payment system. The government is phasing out the old method of collecting cash from campsites and retail shops.
Instead, the quarterly BISP Kafaalat installment of Rs. 13,500 will be transferred directly into the beneficiary’s personal bank account. This is a major step to ensure dignity, security, and transparency for all recipients.
How the New Bank Payment System Works:
- Account Requirement: All eligible beneficiaries must open a bank account.
- Linking Account: You must visit your nearest BISP Tehsil Office with your original CNIC to link your new bank account to your BISP file.
- Direct Transfer: Once linked, all future payments, including the Rs. 13,500 quarterly installment, will be sent directly to this account.
- Easy Withdrawal: You can withdraw your money from any ATM or bank branch at your convenience, without facing long queues or deductions.
Note: This system is being rolled out in phases. You will be notified via an official SMS from 8171 when you need to open and link your bank account.
BISP New Registration Open for 2025
BISP has also opened new registrations for families who believe they are deserving but are not currently part of the program. Registration is not done online; it must be done in person by completing the NSER Dynamic Survey.
How to Register for BISP:
- Visit the BISP Office: Go to the nearest BISP Tehsil Office or registration center in your district.
- Bring Your Documents: You must have your original Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC). Also, bring your children’s B-Forms (Bay-Forms) and the CNIC of your spouse.
- Complete the NSER Survey: At the center, you will complete the National Socio-Economic Registry (NSER) Dynamic Survey. A representative will ask you questions about your household, income, family members, and expenses.
- Wait for Confirmation: After you complete the survey, your information will be processed. You will receive an SMS from 8171 on your registered mobile number informing you if you are eligible for the program.
Who is Eligible for BISP Registration?
You are likely to be eligible for BISP if you meet the following criteria:
- Your family’s total monthly income is less than Rs. 40,000.
- Your PMT (Poverty Means Test) score is low (determined by the NSER survey).
- No member of your family is a government employee.
- You do not own a large property or vehicle.
- The applicant must be a female with a valid CNIC.
How to Check Your BISP 8171 Status Online
If you have already registered or want to check the status of your payment, you can do so easily in two ways.
Method 1: 8171 SMS Service
- Open the messaging app on your mobile phone.
- Type your 13-digit CNIC number (without dashes).
- Send this message to 8171.
- You will receive a reply message detailing your eligibility and payment status.
Method 2: BISP 8171 Web Portal
- Visit the official BISP portal: 8171.bisp.gov.pk
- Enter your CNIC number in the designated field.
- Enter the 4-digit code shown in the image.
- Click the ‘Check’ (Maloom Karein) button.
- The portal will display your eligibility status on the screen.
Important: What is the ‘933 Error’?
Some beneficiaries have reported seeing a “933 Error” when checking their status. This error usually means your data is incomplete or needs verification. This often happens if:
- Your CNIC is expired.
- You have not completed the NSER Dynamic Survey.
- Your marital status or household details have changed and are not updated with NADRA.
Solution: To fix the 933 error, you must visit your nearest NADRA office to update your records. After that, visit the BISP Tehsil Office to update your NSER survey. Your payments will resume once your data is verified.
